The Match

Well hello there! It's been quite some time, hasn't it?! Oh my! Well, I've just been chugging along, taking electives, yadda yadda, and getting my application for residency ready to send out. What's that? I never said what I wanted to do? My bad!

Well, I'm going into Psychiatry. That's right, Psychiatry. Not what I ever really imagined, but the field I found continually interesting. And there is enough overlap with Neurology that it keeps me interested. I love stuff with the brain, but once you get into the spinal cord and peripheral nerves, I'm kinda bored. Seriously. And while I loved Family Medicine, and will miss carrying my stethoscope around with me every day, Psychiatry was the one field I thought I would enjoy learning about for the rest of my life. So there you have it.

So anyway, I did finalize my application a couple of weeks ago, and I've already gotten a few interview offers. Yay! Now I just need to balance flying all over this winter, while still getting to go home for a bit to visit. I have a feeling it is going to get a little crazy.

So what is this whole interviewing, ranking, matching process you may have heard of? It's kind of hard to explain. I've tried several times with some people *cough*cough*momanddad*cough*cough and I think they've got it now, but here is a link to an explanation on someone else's blog, and here's an explanation from the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program) itself.

Happy reading! And please keep your fingers crossed that none of my flights get canceled. :)
